If you have ever wanted to experience the sheer petty drama of ancient mythology distilled onto a table, Cyclades: Legendary Edition delivers it in spades. Designers Bruno Cathala and Ludovic Maublanc took their classic cut-throat conquest game and completely restructured it into a faster, tighter, and far more dynamic brawl.
You are competing to build or conquer three thriving metropolises across a modular archipelago, but your armies and fleets cannot lift a finger without divine intervention. That means the real battle happens on the auction track. Outbidding your mate on Ares lets you recruit ground troops and launch bloody invasions, whilst backing Poseidon secures the sea lanes. If you get kicked off the god you planned your entire round around, you must scramble to find another deity or retreat to Apollo to lick your wounds and pocket some coin.
With the inclusion of Hera, devastating mythological beasts, and an ever-shifting modular map, games stay volatile and fiercely competitive right until the final turn. It looks magnificent in play, demands razor-sharp timing, and produces the kind of table banter that keeps game nights alive long after the box lid goes back on.
